Student Resources

Please peruse the following programs and apps, organized by subject matter, as a means of reinforcing the content and skills we are tackling in the classroom. I've selected applications that I feel are both meaningful and highly engaging.  Happy exploring!

Grammar:

• Grammar Blast : Click on the appropriate grade and start fine tuning your grammar skills!
• Grammar Ninja: Get your throwing arm ready, as you "throw" ninja stars towards the appropriate parts of speech.
• Grammar Practice Pack: These review activities coordinate with our Harcourt literacy series!

Writing:

• FlipSnack: Use PDF, jpeg, or jpg files to create *FREE* flipping book.
• LittleBirdTales: Practice illustrating, writing, and narrating your very own story!
• My StoryMaker: With some help from a virtual story maker, select from a variety of characters, settings, and objects to publish your very own story.

Reading and Language Arts:  

• Book Adventure: A list of recommended reading titles are provided on this site.  Using this list, students build their own reading lists, take multiple choice quizzes on the books they've read, and earn points for demonstrating accurate comprehension.
• GotBrainy: Create visuals to illustrate vocabulary words.
• Reading Rewards: Students log the number of minutes they read, and then supply a review of the book.
• Visuword: Check out this online graphic dictionary!
• Word Tamer: Students explore the writing process, by interacting with sample characters, plot, setting, and genre.

Spelling:

• Kids Spell: Create a custom spelling list, and then play games to reinforce accurate spelling.
• Spelling City: Type in all of your spelling words, and then choose to (1) take a spelling OR vocabulary test, (2) play a game, or (3) create flash cards. 
• The Times Spelling Bee: Select the link appropriate for your age, and get ready to participate in a spelling bee!

Math:

• AplusMath Flash Cards: Great for reviewing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts.
• Are You a Math Magician?: Select an operation to practice.  You will be timed, so try to be quick, but accurate too!
• Base Ten Blocks: Practice building numbers with these base ten manipulatives.
• Xtra Math: Select a program of your choice to promote math fact fluency.
• Cool Math 4 Kids: Go here to access digital notes (and games!) on a variety of math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Science:

• Animal Webcams: Take a virtual field trip to a zoo or aquarium, as we explore animal adaptations in the spring.  
• ARKive: Start exploring each of the different animal families!

Social Studies:

• Web Rangers: Practice reading a map, using an interactive game.
• xtimeline: Design your own timeline, with pictures, words, and video.
• PAISES: This is an online map.  Simply click on any country to lean the most important facts.

• Mathmateer Free - Multiple Math Skills: Design your own rocket and fly to the stars, learning about numbers, counting, money, telling time, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and 3D shapes.
• Kid Math Game: Practice addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division using arcade games.
• Motion Math Zone: Learn place value by inserting the  correct number on the number line
